About You
Was a very good day all in all, well structured, friendly and most importantly, very informative!
We were kept very safe which made me feel valued, we were constantly encouraged to ask questions about their work and if we felt comfortable or not.
A lot of guidance, we were directed throughout the entirety of the trip, and kept very close together as we visited various areas of the site.
This discovery day was beneficial as it provided an image to theory, so in future when im in lectures and we go through reactor equipment
The Company
Kept very tightly to a schedule, although we started late, we got back to the times on the schedule very quickly
Positive, happy atmosphere, but at the same time never strayed away too much from the objective
As this was an insight day but we were given a safety video just to show conduct and practises of safety around the sites
With the presentations provided by graduates, engineers/chemists on a sandwich course and senior members, we were provided with a story you could link to various stages in working for BP
We were shown around quite a few areas where people worked to see how they interacted. In addition, the tour guide would give us a brief overview of what certain people did in the work place and how it would all fit in with the rest of the plants on site.
Everything Else
My train fare, taxi expenses to get to the site and back were paid for. We were given forms to claim any other expenses we wished to claim, BP also paid for expenses for a car rental for someone on the day.
Yes, however there was not a lot of time to meet all of the BP representatives which would have been something I would have liked more time to invest in.
Again quite limited, it was adequate enough for you to talk to 1 or 2 BP employees but it was during lunch so it wasn't exactly easy to manoeuvre around to speak to everyone,
Yes there was an in-depth presentation about the surrrounding area of Hull, what employees got up to outside of work and so on
Great experiences, very memorable day, would recommend to any chemist/engineer, even if you have no interest in petrochemicals, they just might change your mind!
