    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Over the past year I have thoroughly enjoyed my self on placement at Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK. Everything from the Role within the Consumer Fleet Operations department, to socially playing Football every week with fellow colleagues from all areas of the organisation. Everybody including the directors are extremely approachable and very friendly, and will bend over backwards to help you in anyway they can. The company also put you through training and courses on everything from project management to cost and complexity reduction. I have also enjoyed the fact there are 15 other undergraduate's, which has aided to whole experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • After I had settled in and started to understand the systems and processes, people began to come to me for advice and answers, now 11 months on It is clear I have become a key team player within department and have managed to put my own mark on reports and processes the team produce. I have embraced the "One team" Goodyear Philosophy, and would recommend this placement to anybody.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Sharon Downard, the Fleet FOS systems manager has provided me with fantastic support over the course of the later period of my placement. She is extremely approachable and is happy to help with any problems you may have along the way. The consumer Feet team also provided me with close support both in and out of work.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My placement started off pretty slow due to staffing issues within the department, however this was quickly resolved. The workload quickly increased in a good way, due to the nature of the role you will find your self constantly on the phone speaking to customers and Key account managers on a regular basis. The role involves building and making reports for internal and external personnel. I enjoyed the fact Sharon would allow you to have the freedom to express your ability in your own way, nothing was too structured. One negative of the role is that you have a considerable amount of admin work which requires you to log and process all kinds of requests from service providers to resolve quires. A lot of problem solving and system based work too. Project work is also available.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would say I had equal amount of responsibility to other full time members of staff in the department, everything from invoicing things out to being first point of contact with customers. Reasonable for analysing data and supporting the Business development managers in anyway possible.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study Business Management so everything was extremely relevant, you can also go and talk to and sit with other areas of the business to gain greater understanding.
