Summer Vacation Placement Review

I was pleased to feel so welcome in the firm. All levels of staff seemed to take a genuine interest in me and my time there. Everyone spoke openly about the firm, allowing me to gain a real insight into what it would be like to work there.

Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There was an impressive lack of perceivable hierarchy in the open-plan office.

I was given a project, mini assignments and some real work to do. Everything was explained clearly by a current trainee and there was always someone I could turn to when I had questions.

Some of the tasks tested my current skills and some developed new ones. The insight into the working practices of a law firm will be invaluable when relating academic work to real life scenarios.

I was paired with a current trainee who greeted me at the start and gave me guidance throughout the week. There were clear deadlines for the assignments and project, making it easy for me to plan my week.

I was welcomed by the staff as though a member of the team. We were taken out for lunch and drinks with the trainees but I didn't feel the firm was trying too hard to show off, there was just a general atmosphere of fun and friendliness amoungst staff.

We received personal feedback for our assignments and project from a member of the recruitment team.

The assignments and project were quite time-consuming meaning there was less time available to do real work and understand what I would be doing on a day-to-day basis. However, where the trainee felt a task was appropriate, he would share with me what he was working on and give me some related tasks to contribute to the work of the firm.

The atmosphere in the office stood out as friendly from the first day and it was clear that there was a strong rapport between all members of staff. Through my personal experience and hearing about the activities trainees were involved with I was able to get a good feel for the firm.

I received a competitive rate

We went out for lunch with trainees on the first and last day of the placement and went for drinks on one evening.

It would have been nice to socialise with more members of staff but socialising with the trainees was a valuable opportunity.

Everyone was always talking about past and future activities with the firm, showing how much they enjoyed them.

It was great to see how a firm of this size opperates and to get a feel for the personality of the firm.
