    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the placement everybody was extremely welcoming and helpful from day 1. Nevertheless, some of the tasks that I had to complete were slightly mundane, but that is to be expected with any internship.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During the first few weeks I did not really feel like i belonged in the team as they were so busy I felt slightly helpless. However, as the weeks have progressed my team have done a great job of making me feel like a valuable member and they have supported me in any difficulties or problems I may have with my projects.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management within my team was really good, I was made to feel that nothing was too much trouble and they were willing to take 30 minutes to go over concepts that I struggled with rather than just leaving me to my own devises.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied from day to day, some days I could be extremely busy others I could be waiting for other teams to get back to me. It tended to get businer towards the end of my placement.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I believe I was given quite alot of responsibility, one of my projects was my own and this meant that I had sole responsibility of obtaining data and organising meetings. I really enjoyed that I was given this responsibility, however, support was always available should I require it.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It has broadened my business knowledge and I have been able to relate things I have learnt already in uni to real life work which can sometimes be hard to do with the course that I am in. It was very useful and I believe anybody seriously considering a career as an actuary should try to gain an internship.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was always a great atmosphere to work in. Not sure you could say the fun never stopped mind, after all it is an office work has to be done.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Like with most things improvements could be made, but on the whole it was extremely well organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It feels like they have invested a lot of time and expense into my internship, I went to many talks in order to aid in my development and training and it was all very useful.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare from home
