    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The variation of work the placement provides kept me on my toes throughout which made it much more enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Working as an assistant manager in a store with over 20 members of staff and completing important projects for directors made me feel as a very valued member of staff throughout the year.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I needed help or support I knew I could call multiple people who would be more than willing to give me a hand.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During my store time I was extremely busy with targets to be hit every week meaning work rate had to be high. Throughout my time in the office I was also kept busy with projects and deadlines given on a regular basis.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During store time I was regularly running shifts with multiple members of staff under my supervision. Moreover during my time in the office, the projects I completed had a major impact on the choices made for the future of the company. One project I completed from scratch was even rolled out to the entire region within a month of me finishing it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The management skills I learnt during my store time will help me enormously in any future management roles I may be a part of in the future. Moreover, the project work has improved my IT skills hugely as well as teaching me a lot about networking and getting the right information from the right people.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A very professional atmosphere at all time full of friendly faces willing to lend a helping hand.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From day one I knew what I would be doing throughout the year which really kept me motivated as I moved onto complete different stages of the placement.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a mentor who I had weekly conversations with where we evaluated what I had done so far as well as formulate targets for the future. As well as this, I had 4 performance reviews throughout the year with an Operations Director as well as a final review with the Managing Director at the end of the placement.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • A graduate scheme offering an awful lot of responsibility with a hugely competitive financial package and a company car is a very exciting opportunity. Moreover, due to completing the placement year, my training would be subsidised meaning I would be able to become an Area Manager in a shorter time period.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Myself and the other placement students got on really well throughout the year and we will definitely keep in contact. Moreover, I also got on well with the members of staff in store who I worked with for half of the year. This was the case in Head Office as well, with approachable directors and friendly, helpful assistants supporting them.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Petrol money was my biggest expense due to where I lived in comparison to where I was working. However any petrol used for project work was fully expensed by the company.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was not much of a focus on socialising during work and it was a very professional place at all times.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company keeps work and home life very separate.
