    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A really good placement. I would reccommend this to anybody curious about what professional services involves, because it will help you to make an informed decision about whether you would like to persue a career in this industry.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Because the office is reasonably small, there is a great atmosphere. Because some people have only been working for the company for a few years, they are very understanding of how daunting it can be to start a new job. It was very personable for a coporate environment, or indeed any workplace I have ever been at. The buddy scheme is really helpful, as it allows you to get to know one person really well, and they will look out for you whilst you are on your placement.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Something which really impressed me about the company is how approachable everyone is at every level. There are obviously professional boundaries which have to be conformed to, but everyone is willing to help and guide in great detail. You can really tell how passionate people are about their jobs here.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • one of the benefits of the southampton office is that you are given a great deal of responsibility. This is a real challenge, but gives you a real taste of each service line. From a personal perspective, it is my summer holiday and therefore I wanted to be challenged and not bored, and I have been very gratified by the work that has been given to me.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of responsibility, but there is always support so it does not feel as daunting.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that this job has helped my organisation. I don't think I will stay in bed all day at university any more, because this can create an unwelcome cycle of work/ sleep. After working on my placement, I have found that a bit of routine means that I can work and also go out and have a social life, instead of working and sleeping. I have been given a lot of confidence, and feel that I can achieve a lot in my final year of university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Because the office is quite small, lots of events are put on, and everyone is really close. In both audit and tax, the atmosphere was really good, and this allowed me to get to know people better.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised. I would say that it helps to have a car for the audit part because you are able to access more jobs, but I didn't and they found lots of interesting jobs for me to partake in.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We went away at the beginning on a training course in Birmingham, which gave us a chance to meet all of the UK interns outside of London. It was really fun and a good chance to meet a number of people and stay in a nice hotel!

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. Deloitte seems to be expanding quite quickly. From what I have gathered the Southampton office is very forward thinking and is sure to further expand in the coming years.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was great, lots of varied events to partake in, really fun people.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living at home. Travel expenses on audit trips were paid for me. Often taken out for lunch by people in the company, which saved money and also was a good opportunity to talk out side of the office.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Southampton has good night life. It is good that there is a clustering of bars/ clubs to suit every need around the office. As a student it is nice to go to some posher clubs for once!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of events put on for the SVS students and also the students in their first 3 years.

    5/5
