    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • There was plenty of activities to keep me busy. I was either shadowing a solicitor and taking notes. Or if he was busy or in court, I was able to get on with some administrative work, like filing, photocopying and writing up summons.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • They took on board my ideas and comments. They asked me where I felt they could improve in dealing with clients.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was not heavily supervised. However, I was told that the experience would be largely independent. That said, the solicitor did talk me through a lot of the work he was doing and made sure that I was happy.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills of written and oral communication were very important. I feel like I was able to practice my use of IT such as spreadsheets and powerpoints which was also useful.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • There was a very clear itinerary and the solicitor I was with made sure I had plenty of work to organize and get on with which was helpful. I think perhaps it could have been a bit more varied.

    3/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The people were generally friendly. However, that was not always the case.

    3/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They were offering me their time which was extremely generous. However, this was mainly an opportunity to watch and observe, rather than have them actually train me.

    2/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • There was a real opportunity to get a proper insight into a career in legal services. Perhaps I could have seen a bit more of the courts but apart from that the firm was transparent.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • They are a very reliable and good employer. They explained the company benefits - like the pension programme. This was really useful.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • 3/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • They gave a really good insight and it confirmed my expectations rather than radically changing them.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many solicitors and some partners around the firm. This provided me with a fantastic opportunity to talk with some high profile lawyers.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There was a lunchtime event which I briefly attended.

    1/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was an on sight gym and swimming pool. I was told about the various social events organised by city law firms as well.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • There was a lot for people interested in law.

    4/5
