    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It turned out to be exactly what I wanted from an internship and it made me certain that this is the career that I want to persue.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt valued by the different teams I worked with so much so I have made friends within the firm that even if I don't get an offer of a graduate job I will keep in touch with.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Senior managers and even partners are friendly and supportive and never make you feel 'bottom of the ladder'. I always felt like one of the audit team.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was never without work but it is a question of asking for work as many people have small jobs for you to do so it's essential to get to know your department and ask for work from whoever and whenever you need it.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is quiet but that's mostly due to the fact that people are simply getting on with their work. Out at client's offices though there is a more relaxed attitude.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I found that my placement was well organised but this was not the case for everyone. I would definitely recommend that you outline with your counsellor exactly what you want from your internship in terms of experiences. It was due to the fact that I did this that she then got me on to the jobs that she knew I would find interesting.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The internship was as much a chance for you to shine as well as for them to try to get you to want to work for them. They want to stretch you and see exactly how you work in the business environment. There wasn't any personal training as such but in terms of development I have learnt a great deal.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I went into my internship wanting to know what the job would entail not to get a graduate job offer. I wasn't expecting to find a job that so suited what I want to do with my career and so for me the prospects of working at Ernst & Young are great.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Throughout the induction week you make friends across different departments and offices and this carries on throughout your internship. I have made some great friends. The ball at the end of the six weeks is also a great chance to catch up before everyone goes their seperate ways.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live in Edinburgh so cost of living was low though it has to be said that the cafes etc are expensive near the office though there are some cheaper places if you search them out.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We experienced a CSR day (Corporate Social Responsibility) during our induction week but apart from that I didn't do a lot, though there is football after work from time to time and poker nights occasionally.
