    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • With no knowledge of audit, it's hard to start off. When you haven't got to grips with the task you're meant to be performing it can be disheartening. Having said this, when you do start to understand things a bit better, it can give you a boost. I was given a range of tasks, from the deadly dull to some quite itneresting things.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were warm and friendly, and always willing to give a hand or further explain a task. Made an effort to be friendly and treat you like a young professional at the start of your career.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was a good support network, and everyone on a team helped give support and guidance, not just the managers.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some weeks were full of work, while others it fewlt like there wasn't a huge amount to do. However, people always managed to find something worthwhile that needed doing.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was in charge of my own substantive audit procedures for two weeks, which was challenging. I was given the analytical review, which meant sitting down with the FD and chatting through some year on year variances. Some people will chuck you in headfirst, which, if you rise to the challenge, can be extremely rewarding.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My dgree is engineering so perhaps not so much in that. However, in terms of applying for accouting jobs in subsequent years, this experience has been invaluable.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It took some getting used to. Completely open plan, so interns and partners are sharing the same space. Not so much scope to converse as generally people are fairly quiet and getting on with their own work.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised induction week etc. The only criticism would be a small lack of work sometimes during the placement.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They attempted to see that I got the best mix of Jobs out of this internship. The hardest thing is knowing what sort of Job you want to be put on, as if you did I'm sure they would try to accomodate.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They say they are looking for 90% conversion of interns to Graduates.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Induction week was extremely social and very good fun (including go-karting). Also a Black tie event to be had at the end of the internship.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Bristol is not as expensive as london, however its not cheap as chips. ideal if you have a student house in bristol anyway.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bristol's night-life is pretty good if you know where to go. check out Timbuk2 for a good night.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Within EY not really, because of the short period of time you are there. plenty to do in and around bris though. Harbourside festival is always good.
