About You
It was a fantastic look into the world of civil engineering, and they also focused on architectural design which helped me form a greater interest in pursuing this career.
Although I was not completely involved in a single project, I was allowed to shadow multiple individuals working on a number of both architectural and engineering projects.
I was mostly left to my own exploration of the various projects going on in the office, however was introduced to a number of relevant software's that I now use throughout university.
As well as common interpersonal skills, I was introduced to a number of different software that have given me a drastic head start amongst my colleges, who now defer to me for advice when choosing how to present there work with the most appropriate piece of software.
The Company
There was not a particular structure set, although I was advised on what to attend and who to communicate with, I was left to my own exploration for my 2 week work experience
It was an extremely active atmosphere that thrived on the interaction of all members of staff working on multiple projects that ranged from housing to bridge structures.
I had no personal training or specific development from the company, but developed skills through general interaction and participation.
Through observing multiple personal at different levels, I gained a diverse insight into different roles at the company.
The company culture was at the forefront of my experience and I enjoyed thriving in its action.
This work experience ultimately led me to want to work in the design and construction industry as an architect.
Everything Else
Lunch and travel expenses were reimbursed
I primarily networked with other staff members and attended multiple meetings throughout the work experience.
Everyone was friendly and approachable and they enthusiastically shared their ideas and project developments.
We discussed work that took place during working ours however it seemed like there were potentially other outside activities.
My work experience at AECOM was enlightening and highly enjoyable, I would recommend it anyone who either is interested in the construction industry or unsure about their career path.
