    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I knew from the beginning that the job would not be easy but that's why I enjoyed it. Every day was completely different and I could be doing anything from designing Christmas coffrets to writing how-to scripts for videos. However, the job is EXTREMELY intense and fast paced so you need a lot of energy to sustain your levels of ability. My team made the job so much more than a job and I felt so welcomed and valued.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I honestly felt like they were my family. I am truly going to miss my job and team greatly and will never forget the support, friendship and respect I have received from the start. Let's just say the last day involved a lot of tissues!

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Guidance and support was second to none at most times from my line manager but sometimes I feel they didn't have enough time to explain all things fully. Also, a lot of guidance and support was missing from my line manager's boss which lead to some confusion and frustration all round the team as well as other departments.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • If I could have made a clone I would have made three. I could have worked 24/7 and there would always still be things to do!

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been thrown into numerous varied projects from designing Christmas coffrets and leading its promotional campaign ideas to writing scripts for how-to videos and analysing data. I feel i was given a huge amount of responsibility which, at first, can be daunting but a great way to learn and grow.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout my placement in L’Oréal Paris I cannot properly put in to words how invaluable an experience it has been. I have learnt about professionalism, how to conduct myself appropriately in different situations, focusing on prioritising and the importance of being involved within a highly productive and supportive team. From my first day it was apparent the intensity and high level of responsibility the job would entail and, although a few challenges were encountered along the way, my knowledge of the processes and the dynamics of such a large company has grown significantly as well as my understanding of how the different functions are interrelated. It has been great to be in an environment where people are not content with the average and mediocre and strive for that something more, that something special, paying attention to every detail of their work.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team were in stitches at least once a day and everyone on the floor was very happy and bright (most of the time!)

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I had some issues with my email address and HR sent a lot of important documents to another person in a different country which wasn't ideal but other than that it was pretty well organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I didn't receive any official training but I feel a lot of time was spent on the job training. I think I have developed considerably and understand more about how a multinational corporation works.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I'd really love to go back as I know I would be exposed to so much and learn a huge deal.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes but we organised it ourselves and only a few groups of interns actually regularly met to do things.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Quite average (the pub we all went to after work on a friday wasn't that cheap though)

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Depends what you like but Piano Bar, Fez, Be @ 1, whetherspoons etc... were all nearby.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • intern committee, Zumba, choir, squash, netball, yoga and football

    3/5
