    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed my year. The work was demanding and interesting within a very friendly department.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I wasn't treated like an intern - my opinion was valued.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly meetings to discuss progress and any issues I had. I was also offered plenty of help and advice for university projects.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy at month end, this quietened down toward the end of the month.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for several pieces of month end reporting. I also redeveloped the way some of these processes operated.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Developed my Excel and Access (etc.) skills significantly.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly, comfortable but hard working.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was the first placement student in the department so at first it took a while for them to work out exactly what I could do. I was able to improve the introduction process for my replacement.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a driver safety course and also several web based training sessions. There was also the option to go on courses if I wanted.

    4/5

  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

  • I would be very willing to work at VW again.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a big group of undergraduates so there were plenty of opportunities to socialise.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Going out wasn't terribly cheap compared to Birmingham, however, cheaper than London. Living with other undergrads made it very affordable.

  • There were a few nightclubs, pubs and restaurants but nothing compared to a city.

    3/5

  • There were a few activities organised throughout the year such as a treasure hunt (that ended in the pub!), team building days and Christmas parties.
