The Role
I don't dream of working in a nursery for my whole life. However this is a good company to work for for a short amount of time. Its a way of getting easy money and you dont have to take work home with you. For me its about getting experience with younger children.
Within the room i work in, i feel hugely valued. It can get a little argumentative between some staff, however i have been encouraged to fit in well and everyone has been warmly welcoming towards me.
My supervisor is with me almost all the time. she constantly is guiding me and ensuring i am sure on the tasks i am giving. Its important i know what i am doing for the safety of the children around me.
Its a very busy job but i like being busy. The job includes a lot of running round and cleaning up after young children. Often more than 20 children in a room at a time. You just need to use your initiative and have your eyes open at all times.
I feel that i have a huge responsibility. Looking after someone else's children is obviously a big responsibility and its one that i value when i am their.
I think this placement has given me insight into how children should be looked after. I think that one day the skills i have built up from this placement will make me a great parent.
The Company
It can be a stressful environment and sometimes can get a bit awkward between some staff who don't agree. i find that often supervisors are not respected in the right way and people often do what they want.
It was very well set up., It took some time to get the CRB check through. However my hours and start date were all very organised. I felt that it was successful overall.
I have had a lot of training. the company have a large training pack which has recently been introduced. This involves carrying out different activities within the nursery and proving my abilities.
I dont really know much about the future prospects for myself with the organisation. however i do know that the company are national which means i can be moved around if wanted.
The Culture
The employees at the work place were keen to socialise outside of work. There were different things organised which i was happy to get involved with.
Cambridge is very expensive to live in. Rent was high and the food was even more expensive compared to the north east of England where i am from. This meant planning meals and saving money.
The nightlife in the area is acceptable. It is not the best i have been involved in, however it was what you made of it.
Yes plenty. Different social outings were arranged among staff. The different things varied depending on the time of year. Less people were interested during the winter.
