    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • Having full responsibility of running the CFM operations in my section whilst my Manager is away for 2 weeks has been a difficult but enjoyable experience. I've learnt a lot since I started here and this was a real test as to what I can do. The teams here are very supportive and co-operative.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Interns play a great role in the functioning of the business and I think my colleagues have great respect for us and what we do to help them complete daily tasks.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • My mentor is fantastic there's not been a moment when I've felt lost or confused and he's not been there to help me get back on track. The management will set you goals when you start to help you gain more from the placement.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • There's always something to be done and times just flies by. Not only are you doing work but its a chance for you to learn of the team asking them technical questions or just doing some practical stuff with guidance from them.

    • The workload is shared but you do have a lot of responsibility from communication to organisation.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • I'd highly advise students to go on placement, because everything you've learnt in your first 2 years at uni will make a lot more sense. You get a real feel of the industry and gain valuable experience as well as a nice salary to live on.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • The atmosphere her is vary laid back and the approach the company is is brilliant. Everyone knows we have targets and we all work to meet them, but there's no stress because we all know what needs to be done and when it should be done.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • Bit of a slow start setting things up but once the ball got rolling it's very enjoyable and you're on your feet pretty quickly.

    • The company will provide you with some training but mostly its introductory stuff. This is to provide you with the basic understanding.

    • GE is a great company to work for with several graduate programmes. Hopefully I'll be able to get one.

    • Absolutely fantastic.

    • It's not bad because Cardiff is mainly filled with students so there are a lot of student deals.

    • Cardiff has a great nightlife.

    • Lots of volunteering and company sports activities.
