  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It provides a great opportunity to develop engineering and interpersonal skills but the work load can be difficult at times.

  • We have team building activities where the entire office would go out together for meals and nights out.

  • every intern had their own mentor assigned to them to ensure that they got the most out of the placement.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied from day to day depending on what was going on but there was always something to be doing.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At the start i did not do much but later as i learned more my technical judgement became valued.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Some of the technical information was GE specific but other parts will be very beneficial including the interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Varied day to day

  • it was awkward getting started due to the security issues but otherwise everything was fine.

  • Provided many opportunities for independent learning in a wide variety of subject matter as well as their own compulsory training.

  • Only 5% of interns get ofered a bursary and graduate offer during placement. Many more can reapply after graduating.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 60 interns in company, so lots of social events.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • cardiff is relatively cheap

  • Cardiff has many clubs although it is not really my thing.
