    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement at GE was a great experience and allowed me to be involved in many project. The interships offered by the company, allowe students to have a real role within the department, whose actions affect the company. I enjoyed working for GE as I was able to develop my own learning and development as well as learn real business expereince from a large global corporisation. The projects I have been involved me allow me to have direct contact with the leadership team and have a direct impact on the business. This allowed me to feel valued as a intern as well as develop the skills and knowledge I have acquired through my university course.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All employees at the company made me feel welcome in my first weeks of joining as an intern. During my handover with the previous intern I spent time in different department to get to know different managers and more about the role. This helped me build relationships with other people in the business and also learn more about what the company does. If ever I needed support in an area of my role, another employee was always willing to help. The work that I have been completing as part of my role has also been praised by mangers, not only my supervisor but from other departments. This role makes me feel more valued as I am able to help and support other areas of the site and develp communcation and networking skills.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • By working in a small department I have direct contact on a regular basis with my supervisor. Constant support and reviews of my progress are constitanly montirored to offer support where needed and acknowledge the work I am doing. Weekly one on one sessions with my supervisor allowed me to express any areas where I wish to have support and help monitor the workload that I had. If I felt that my workload was too much or was interested in getting involved in more projects then my manager was always happy to support this.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As my current placement is within a small department I am busy a lot of the time. This is great as I never feel bored in my role and always have lots of different projects to get involved in. Sometime the workload can seem daunting at busy periods of the month but this has helped me develop my time management skills. My manager was also happy to support me if I felt that I was too busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility as part of my placement at GE. The company treated me the same as a permanent employee and I was given projects that I was solely responsible for. These projects were important as they impacted the business and I had direct realtions with our suppliers.

  • Ths skills that I have developed during my placemen will assist me to develop in the future. As well as the roe that I am doing the company has allowed me to get involed in several volunteering projects as well as take part in the business career development plan. The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was generally very friendly. All employees were willing to stop and discuss anything with you as due to being an open enviroment I never felt isolated. The office often put on employee engagement events within the site and during evening socials. This was a great way to socialise and network with people within my area as well as other departments that I did not interact with as mucj.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The palcement was well organised and I have felt supported throughout my time here. As the site that I am currently working at is high security due to miliarty requirements, the starter process was quite long. Prior to my startdate I had to undergo 3 months of Secruity checks to work at a site that deal with Military manufacturing. This was very time consuming and would have been better if there was more regular contact from the company during this time to update me on new starter informatino.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and money into the intership scheme within GE. The site that i was based encouraged all interns to sign up to the career development programme to develop skills and fututre job prospects after the degree. GE also offered rountables with the leadership team and externally on graudate opportunities as well as other opportunities during our palcement year. Interns were always offered the chance to develop in areas they had interests in and the goals and objectives of my placement year were tailored around my expectations from my university requirememts and personal goals.
