  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • A seasonal variation in workload is to be expected in the energy industry. This was balanced nicely by numerous projects which encouraged me to explore various developments and familiarise myself with issues both in the tax world and within the energy industry.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Managing responsibilities was never an issue. I feel the level of responsibility I was given was that expected for an intern if not more. There was support in place to assist me if I felt i needed it or experienced trouble with anything.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Whilst working at EDF Trading there were numerous opportunities to develop as an employee and towards future studies. I was certainly able to develop keys skills through Microsoft Office training days and the ability to study towards a qualification whilst working. 'Lunch and Learns' and Department Presentations facilitated growth and enhanced my understanding of the Company itself and the energy industry. The combination of opportunities to develop made me feel that I was an important asset to the company, one that could be optimised through training, whilst valuing the importance of individual personal development and self-fulfilment.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • When I joined they gave presentations from each of the departments within the company to provide a overall picture of how they work together and what their roles within the company entail in quite some detail. Introduction sessions provided me a chance to find out exactly what being a commodity trading company meant and the finer details of what goes on. They supported me studying towards a IIT VAT compliance diploma and attended a number of Excel training days. I honestly cannot fault the efforts to make me feel welcome and up-to-speed.
