Summer intern Review

The hours in investment banking are inevitably long but I found it easier than expected because the work was interesting.

Teams were quite small and I quickly felt like a full member of the team rather than just an intern, they were willing to get me involved as much as possible; going to meetings etc so as to fully understand what a graduate job would entail.

There was a review meeting half way through with the intern manager to tell you how they thought you were getting on and what you should work on for the next half of the internship.

I was always busy but it is kind of up to the intern to take on as much work as they think they can handle/ do to a high enough standard

I was quite surprised how much responsibility line manager etc. were willing to give. The responsibility increases as you go on - by the end I was doing similar work to the full-time analysts.

In that I am likely to pursue the job as a career, it is very valuable. There is a training week for the first week that helps build the foundations and then there is on the job training from the analysts and more senior bankers.

Professional, but people were willing to have a bit of a laugh as well. Especially at team drinks and meals.

It was fairly well structured from start to end in terms of the training week, mid-intern review, final feedback sessions etc.

The first week of training was very helpful - especially for someone like me who had no previous finance experience/ knowledge

I was offered a job on the analyst program

The bank put on a few social events/ ice-breakers and many of the interns socialized together outside of these events.

London is expensive but interns are paid in-line with the graduates so its not too bad.

The City is fairly dead at night but you can get to the west-end or shoreditch/ old street easily enough

Not really - the hours are too long to do that.
