The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship, being given interesting objectives and clear goals from day one enabled me to always be busy. Having clear vision of the skills I was developing as I undertook my daily tasks.
I was made to feel part of the team immediately and always supported by other colleagues when I needed additional guidance or advice.
I had regular meetings with my supervisor to discuss and monitor progress with objectives and daily guidance and tasks set each day. I was also able to get involved in most tasks and shadow my supervisor with their own tasks. Having strong guidance and support from my supervisor made the transition easy and contributed greatly to my skill development and experience.
Having additional tasks to get involved in on top of my own objectives meant that I was always busy and had a focus each day.
I was given responsibility to independently work on my objectives and look at solutions and improvements to allow work to be undertaken more effectively.
Many professional skills I have developed are already showing within my studies, having gained confidence and improved interpersonal and written skills which can be applied to the completion of my final year of studies. Also now apply for graduate schemes I have develop skills which are requirements and are supporting my applications.
The Company
The team atmosphere was great within my office, although I'm not quite sure I would have the same opinion if I were placed in a different department.
Communication was great throughout and in terms of organisation I was clear on dates, objectives and procedure to follow.
I was able to maximise development as much as possible, with the company always open to help if I wanted to get involved in a different function or experience different roles and tasks.
On review I was fast tracked onto the gradate scheme, which I am going to apply to.
The Culture
I didn't socialise with my fellow placement students as I had my own social group and there was a difference in personality.
The cost of living was average and socialising was average and reasonable too.
I heard the nightlife was average but did not experience this for myself.
There were not any opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work
