    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my year here, there was always something to do, and the work was varied. I feel like i was treated as one of the team from the first day, and included in all team meetings and events. I have built up good friendships with other students on placement and also other colleagues in the office

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team was very supportive and always availble to help with anything i was stuck on. Other people i completed work for were always thankful for work being completed on time and often passed on good feedback to managers.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had regular contact with my managers and often had feedback sessions. Management were always available to give help and support where needed.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work load varied from day to day but there was always work to be done. If i had too much work on to meet the deadlines other team members would offer help to finish tasks on time.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think i was given a fair amount of responsibility without feeling too pressured to complete everything perfectly. I often made updates to live databases, but my manager was always happy to look over any code before it was run.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel i have learned alot from this year at GSK not just in technical skills but about how large organisations are run. I have had access to lots of training oppotunities and encouraged to participate in as much as possible. Going into my final year i am more motivated to complete my degree with a high grade to be able to obtain a job like this in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office wasn't very busy but everyone was very friendly and there was often fun events arranged such as wii tournamounts and pub lunches, this made everyone alot closer and easier to approach with questions. There was a relaxed atmosphere to the office.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As GSK has taken students on in the past the organiation was very good. On my first day everything was already set up for me, and I was told straight away about who my team was and introduced to everyone in the office. I also received phone calls from my other managers located at different sites, this helped me to settle in very well!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was offered the chance to participate in alot of training courses, this has helped my deveopment in many areas. I was encouraged to get involved with lots of projects even outside of my team.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
