    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I feel after this placement I am more sure of what I can achieve in my future and it has given me the confidence to aim high and be ambitious with my career path. The skills and experience I have gained over the year will without a doubt help me with applications and any work I shall undertake; be it academic in my third year or professional post university.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my year I was heavily involved with working with senior managers within Gist. Throughout the year I felt respected and I was always given the opportunity and responsibility to show my potential. I made many friendships and professional relationships with both customers and managers in Gist.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • For the work I undertook this year, my manager took a stepped back approach to allow me to work independently and look for solutions to problems myself. The support was always there when required, but the autonomy I received with regards to working through problems myself meant that I drew from my experience and knowledge without being carried at any time. This feature I feel has benefited me the most during my year.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The hours can sometimes be dictated by the work itself and the nature of the industry. The placement year is busy, but revel in this and make the most of every opportunity. I found that this was not a problem as once you feel responsible for making a project successful you will work hard and long in order to reap the rewards and see it become successful.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibility over the year was very high, however, this turned into the best opportunity to showcase myself and received excellent exposure internally and externally.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have finished this year confident in my own abilities and in my CV drawn from the experience I had and the skills I gained with regards to man management, time management, professional attitude and IT skills. This will be reflected in my future career ambitions.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is always lively and challenging as the industry and work itself is so demanding. Third Party Logistics companies and under pressure to always deliver a high standard and reliable service so it can become quite intense but this will be recognisable to any employer on a CV.
