The Role
Was interesting but ran out of work at times
Was very friendly office but they didn't regularly ask my opinion on work
My manager was always helpful but as I was moved between departments for the first 6 months I had different people to work for each month and they weren't always as helpful as the guy organising my placement
Fairly busy but, depending on which department I was working in, the level of work varied and sometimes I had nothing to do
Not a huge amount of responsibility more a fact finding role, talking to the client and taking pictures of issues than being asked to try and solve any issues
Had to be able to read general assembly and part drawings, a skill I learnt on my course
The Company
All the members of staff were friendly in a social context but were not particularly keen on taking the time to discuss their work with you. They'd rather you just did your assigned task without knowing how it fits into the overall scheme of things
The placement was well organised, in that it was designed to let me experience a variety of departments however the organisation in each department was not always of the same standard
No real training or development discussions were offered to me in my time there
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I think if I had a full time job there I would be more welcomed into the office and provided with more challenging work
The Culture
There were four placement students there and we all got on well and had fun however I feel that was more due to the personalities of the four of us than anything the organisation did
Fairly cheap as I could live at home and commute into work
Pretty good and Portsmouth has a university so there were other students around
We were always welcome on social events however there weren't really any sports activities available
