The Role
I found this role to be a fantastic experience. I learnt from various departments and gave me a great inside view of a global business and the operations behind the scenes.
I was lucky to be put with a team where I felt valued as a member. With only 7 of us in the department, we were able to communicate effectively and achieve the goals that we were set. As time progressed I felt even more included in the team and was given more responsibility than I had thought I would get which suited perfectly.
I had both an immediate manager as well as the head of department to look over the entire team. I felt comfortable asking questions and was never left without the confidence that there was support behind me. On many occasions I was given a task and left to complete it alone with a discussion with my manager after. This feedback would give confidence for me to carry out more tasks individually.
My role involved helping to organise various events as well as the day to day running of our recruitment system. This therefore meant that some days were busier than others but this is something I enjoyed. There were not ever days where there was nothing to do, especially as I found it key to help other team members if the day was slightly quiet.
At first, understandably, I had little responsibility as I was learning the role and the team were getting to know me. However, quickly I started to carry out tasks alone and this highlighted my abilities. From then on I was given quite a bit of responsibility and was responsibility for certain areas independently.
This has helped me greatly, especially as the time approaches for my dissertation. I learnt from each department and skills werecontinuously developed. I also ddeveloped personal skills such as communication and confidence.
The Company
For myself and being part of the Franchising team, I thoroughly enjoyed by whole experience and has a great time where I was. I got on very well with my team, better than I imagines a would for my placement but we were able to get on with our tasks but often had a laugh in between which was vital to maintain morale.
The HR team were fantastic. They had all the information ready for myself and manager. They also hosted a couple of development data which helped adjust into the working environment as well as helped for the different placement students to get to know one another. Any problems, they were there to help.
Any courses that I wished to attend was granted and very much encouraged. Any tasks that would arise that could benefit my development was given to me.

I have transferred to a store back at university. After spending time and resources on a student, McDonald's are very willing to hire previous placement students which is evident across the organisation.
The Culture
It was in London so costs were as such. However, we were lucky to find a great landlord close to work. Socialising is more expensive than many universities but as with anywhere; if you know where to go its alright.
Work was on the northern line which took us straight into London, nightlife was fantastic.
Many things to do within the area. As a hockey player I found it easy to find a local team.
