The Role
The work was quite varied, but, inevitably, there were some jobs that were recurrent and quite boring. However, as the least experienced in the office, you have to expect that some easy/boring jobs will come your way.
Everyone in the office was very friendly and I really liked my team especially the members on my desk.
My supervisors were very helpful and always explained things to me very clearly, and were patient too in explaining things.
Mostly I was busy which was good, however there were some days where there wasn't much on though these days were an exception.
I was given some responsibility - just the right amount really. We were in charge of a "group project" I undertook with the other interns, but in terms of responsibility with the work itself, we weren't given too much responsibility as of course we were inexperienced interns!
The training days themselves were not too helpful and the presentations we received on these days were not the best. However, I do think I learn a lot from the internship itself. I would say I learnt the most from a group project we did with the other interns which was compiling a report and then presenting our findings to senior figures. I learnt how to work as a team and I think my presentation skills improved too.
The Company
A good balance overall - the office was open plan, so you could chat to your colleagues and share a joke, but a lot of work was also done.
The internship had been run before many times so it was well set up and everything we would need (e.g. supervisors, projects etc) had all been set up
There were two training days where we received presentations on actuarial work, but I didn't find these helpful.
Company Parties/Events
I am waiting to hear back as to whether I will be offered a graduate job...fingers crossed!
The Culture
There were lots of opportunities to get involved socially with my colleagues, from barbecues to playing sport to the summer event.
I didn't live in the area so can't comment.
I didn't live in the area so can't comment.
Again, there were lots of opportunities to get involved socially with my colleagues, from barbecues to playing sport to the summer event and I was made to feel welcome to get involved as I wished.
