The Role
Hard work, but an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
I felt that the work I did really helped the members of my team. I could see the products of my work in client presentations etc
Lots of help given by those who I was working with in my team.
I was often very busy, but then sometimes had little to do. However, much of the time the balance was about right.
I found I was given more and more responsibility as my internship progressed and team members saw I could be trusted with/was able to complete more work.
The ability to work hard for long periods of time and manage multiple tasks were valuable lessons. The actual content of the work wasn't useful for me degree (but I did not expect it to be), although it was useful for considering different career options.
The Company
Obviously everyone was very hard working, but my colleagues were very friendly and welcoming. On a couple of occasions we had team drinks and even a BBQ, which was a good opportunity to get to know colleagues a little better.
We were given training for a week at the start. We were assigned buddies in our teams and mentors in different parts of the bank to give us support. A couple of events were organised with the other interns too.
The training was definitely useful, but learning on the job with colleagues explaining things/helping you was the main method of learning.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
I really enjoyed working with my team and Rothschild would be a great company to work for. They offer good graduate training. The big problem is the lifestyle the career entails, but that is the same in any investment banking job.
The Culture
Didn't have much time to socialise, but often had lunch with other interns and occasionally went for drinks.
Expensive as it was in the City, but lunch and dinner were largely paid for when you were working. I was living at home so the cost of living wasn't really an issue.
Rarely had the time to go out, so don't really know!
Some Rothschild in the community events, some drinks events.
