The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my year at Warner Bros. This was due to the nature of the role and the work I was involved with being extremely interesting and stimulating, as well as the attitude of my manager and the wider team.
The team that I worked within, and pretty much everyone I dealt with on a regular basis, made me feel very valued. The specific department I was in believes very much in the intern process and treated the interns like any other member of the team. My line manager was excellent and gave me huge amounts of responsibility over the year, with the role feeling very much more like a job than a placement. As the Marketing Services team is made up of just the manager and the Marketing Services intern I was able to get involved to an extent that made me feel greatly valued.
My manager at Warner Bros was brilliant and really helped me make the best out of the year. She was extremely nurturing and supportive but also encouraged me to constantly take ownership of projects and be able to work independently. I was given a large amount of responsibility but was never made to feel under stress or pressure. Hard work was rewarded and the more I put in to the role the more I was able to get out of my years internship.
Like in most roles this varied slightly. As the work is dependent on the release schedule of the films there were naturally some periods that were busier than others. It was rare for it to be quiet, usually there was a constant and comfortable flow of work; however there were times that were extremely busy due to a number of things coming together at once. Although this meant it was often non stop it was never excessive and made each day extremely interesting.
The amount I was able to take ownership of and manage myself far exceeded my expectations. As I progressed through the year I was given greater responsibility to the extent that I finished the year extremely confident in my knowledge and understanding of the Marketing Services role. I was trusted to approve artwork across international campaigns and manage events amongst many other tasks.
The experience of working at Warner Bros has been greatly beneficial to my ongoing study, allowing me to relate theory to real world applications with a much greater degree of understanding. My knowledge of marketing, the film industry and myself has really developed over the year due to the role itself and the training provided by Warner Bros. The training scheme for interns provided by HR as well as continuous learning from my manager have helped me to perform my specific role to a very confident level and given me skills that will transfer into university and my future career.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very warm, friendly and fun whilst also being conducive to work. Everyone works extremely hard and often long hours but are also very capable of relaxing and enjoying themselves once the job is done. There is a good social element to the team and always a nice amount of conversation.
The scheme at Warner Bros is excellent, they have been doing it for years and are very comfortable with fitting together the needs of both the organisation and the interns themselves.
The intern training scheme run by HR is very broad and invests in developing you as an individual rather than just for your specific role. There are also many additional training sessions and opportunities on offer to get involved with and further develop yourself. If I was interested in experiencing something from another role or department I was encouraged and assisted in doing so.

As they do not run a graduate scheme any future employment depends on roles being made available and so is by no means guaranteed. However if anything suitable was to come up I know that my year internship can only help.
The Culture
There was a large group of interns across the company and opportunity to mix together at work on a few occasions. At the beginning of the year there are a number of events put on to get all the interns familiar with one another and so the social element outside of work can be as much or as little as you choose. Everyone was very friendly and there was a good camaraderie between interns from all different departments. Certain roles work with other interns closer than others and so within a work context the social element varies.
I commuted in from Milton Keynes for the year and so cost of living was very cheap as I was living with parents. Travel is expensive but still cheaper than accommodation in London itself. Socialising in London is expensive in comparison to most places- drinks will set you back much more than at Uni! However there are limitless cheaper or free things to do in London as a social instead.
Holborn is good for Pubs but there are not many bars or clubs in the immediate area. However it is a quick walk or Tube journey to brilliant nightlife.
There were some activities outside of work however not a vast amount or not well communicated. I was a part of the CSR group partaking in monthly meetings and assisting the organisation of fundraising events and signed up for a Reverse Mentoring scheme. There was also a great opportunity to get involved with the fitness campaign put on by work in which I competed in the Virgin London Triathlon.
