    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • There were lots of other interns around and my team was really friendly. There was a very positive vibe throughout the office.

  • I was very lucky as my manager was always supportive and helped me get the most out of my internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We had some big meetings to prepare for which meant there was always lots that had to be done. This was great as it meant I was never bored.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was at L'Oreal just before the CEO came to visit from Paris. I worked for both the cosmetics and skincare teams and was able to do research which fed into the presentations they made to him. I never felt like I wasn't doing things which were genuinely important and worthwhile for the business.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt good skills that you don't necessarily learn in a degree like how to use Excel in a working environment.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was always very bubbly with people going for coffees together and chatting during the day.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were regular 'Lunch and Learn' sessions which taught you about different areas of the business aside from the stream you were in such as HR, Supply Chain and Consumer Affairs. We also had a 'buddies' on the Management Training scheme who were very helpful and a good source of advice.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Most of the learning was hands on and done on the job which was interesting and practical. There were some training sessions to support this where necessary though.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would very much like to return to L'Oreal - you find out on the very last day of your internship.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It helped if you lived in London - I commuted from home. But there were lots of social events to go along to organised by the social secretaries on the intern committee.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London will always be expensive but the subsidised canteen meant that life at work wasn't too pricy.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were sports teams and yoga classes but I didn't really pursue this as I was only there for 10 weeks.
