    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed most of the work, and there was a very welcoming atmosphere about the whole place.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like the work I was doing may not have contributed a huge amount to the company, but that everyone was glad to see me improve for the future anyway.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager struck a great balance between guidance and letting me find my own way.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were the odd days where I wasn't sure what to do next, but there was never a lack of work, nor such brutal deadlines that I was over-faced.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It's not really a job for responsibility as such, but I was never kept away from things due to inexperience.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Massively. I learnt to code in python predominantly, but could now write small chunks of code in C, HTML and JavaScript. I also was given the chance to make a presentation on parts of the work I did over the summer, which has been another usefully developed skill.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good mix of interns and regular workers in the office, and occasional nerf gun fights would break out between everyone.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My manager had a complete plan for my internship before I even turned up to work the first day.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company gave me (paid me for) a week of learning to code, mainly in python but also in C, and learning to use linux.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They've offered me a job for next year (when I graduate) which I'm going to accept.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns go out for a pub lunch each week, and most weeks of the internship the company spent money on a tab behind the bar of a local pub for the interns to go to.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living was cheap (the company provide strongly subsidised accommodation). Socialising was similarly cheap as the company often spent money on a tab behind the bar of a local pub.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Near Enfield there isn't a huge amount, but it's in London so you can always get a train into the centre for good nightlife (at a price)

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A group of interns began rock-climbing during their internship on weekends; there were regular lunchtime clubs for football, touch rugby, badminton, ultimate frisbee...

    5/5
