    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a very enjoyable time in my internship. The people I worked with were fantastic, and all very happy to help you with anything from "How do I do this in Excel" to "How do I go about getting some experience in this area of the business?". The work I was given was interesting and varied. I was also given the opportunity to ask for any more work I liked the look of, to get a broader picture of the work we do. This extra freedom, coupled with the value I was enabled to bring to the team by doing important work, lead to a very challenging, interesting and enjoyable internship.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was frequently told by my senior manager how valuable I was to their team. I could also see this impact first hand when people all around my team started using work I had made to help them with their own work. Overall I have felt extremely valued in this role.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very keen to get me involved in shadowing experience and training programmes to further my development.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I felt that my work challenged me to the correct extent throughout my internship. There were peaks and troughs throughout, as my projects moved forward, which of course led to quieter times and more focussed times. But I at all times felt that I had something to do, and if I didn't, a simple conversation with my manager would have easily corrected that at any point.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was heavily involved in some key processes in my team, and frequently saw feedback from my work, showing the value I provided during my time here. I took over from someone who had left the role, so was doing "real" work.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My IT skills have tremendously improved in the 10 weeks of my internship, which will no doubt help me in the future. I've also learnt much about the general working environment of an office; something that I can take with me to future jobs.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere of my office is one of the best perks of the job; I believe it strikes the perfect balance between hard work and fun. Everyone is very relaxed, and in only this short time I feel like I have gotten to know the people here very well, and feel comfortable having a laugh and a joke with them.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall the organisation was very good. I have weekly meetings with my line manager, where I can discuss what's going well and what isn't, how my work is going, and how I can get the very best out of this placement. The only place for improvement I can see would be having a hand-over period with the colleague that I replaced, however due to the time that I arrived this was not possible.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My line manager was very keen on my own personal development. I feel like the only limitation was my own lack of knowledge and conviction on what I wanted to learn and develop!

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My second internship will give me a very good opportunity to be employed with Lloyds in their "Graduate Scheme". I feel quite confident of my chances of getting a job with Lloyds after my internship, with no pressure if I choose not to take it.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I think that this was the one element of this placement that was missing. Although there are other Interns around, there has not been an occassion where we have all gotten together and gone out as a big group. There are another group of young people withing the bank on 'Industrial Placements', yet there is a barrier between the interns and them, as they all live and work together, where we are fewer and much more spread out. Out of 8 Interns this year in this area, the most that have every gone out together at once is 2.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I found it quite average - as this is also the place that I attend my university so I am used to the pricing.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is always fantastic in this City, although it is a little quieter than during term time!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I felt like there wasn't a lot of time left in the day to commit to anything else after work!

    3/5
