    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found the placement to be quite boring at times, and didn't feel as though I was given enough work to do.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were lovely, but frequently gave me long deadlines for simple tasks, and disapproved of my completing them quickly! This lowered my self-esteem and led to me taking longer on tasks simply to please them, which felt inefficient.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The guidance I received was frequent and extensive, with encouragement on some pieces of work I was completing.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Lots of times I had little to do, especially when my manager was particularly busy or away.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given little responsibility and would have appreciated more tasks to complete.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Some of the tasks I completed really taught me about the importance of presenting information in a comprehensive way to aid analysis.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Only one member of my team works where I did, so the atmosphere was often non-existent, particularly as she frequently had meetings or calls to take. Sometimes it became pretty lonely!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the placement was excellent; they really made you feel like you knew what was going on and how you were developing.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was required to complete training and had regular updates as to my development according to my personal development plan.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I found the work to be quite demoralising; I really couldn't see where my team's work brought about many tangible or worthwhile consequences. This really made me question whether I want to work here, as I am determined to find a dynamic and worthwhile career.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The atmosphere in the accommodation and the charity challenge team was excellent, and there have been plenty of socialising opportunities.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London's pretty expensive, but there's not much LBG can do about that. They also paid a lot on the internship which made social activities a lot more realistically available!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I haven't been out, London's too expensive and you're not allowed friends to stay in the accommodation which makes nights out seem less attractive.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are loads of opportunities to get involved in charity things, team drinks, scholars meetings etc.
