    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The first couple of weeks were a bit of a struggle because I wasn't given much work. However, I then changed projects and did something much more interesting that also enabled me to interact to much more senior people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • For first part of my internship, I had some issues with my team because all of them were based in Leeds and I in London. As a result, we had some communication issues. However, about 4-5weeks into my internship, I was moved over and worked with another team in London. I was then valued a lot more by my colleagues and had a much more enjoyable time.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think the work load really depends on the day and the week but also the project you'll be working on. There were some weeks where I was given very little to do so I ended up browsing the intranet and going off to meet some people. Other times, I was overloaded with work and ended up having to work longer hours. The workload really varies.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This internship is a great way to learn more about the banking industry and the day-to-day life of a Banker. I was also given the opportunity to shadow and talk to lots of people in various departments which was very useful and insightful.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Again, the atmosphere really depends on the team you work with. The first half of my internship was slightly dull but the second team I worked with was much more fun. It was a much more laid-back atmosphere. I also think that the atmosphere really depends on what you want and try to get out of the internship. You have to put yourself forward and meet the people you think you will have more fun with.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship in itself is really well set up and organized. Lloyds Banking Group has an opening and closing event which are a great way to catch up with the other interns. Throughout the internship, there are also lots of opportunities to meet other people in the bank but you also need to put yourself forward to seize those opportunities.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In terms of personal training and development, Lloyds can provide you with as much or as little personal development as you want/need. I personally used the opportunity to learn more about the banking industry so I was put in contact with people in various departments. A graduate student also organized a series of presentations on Commercial Banking throughout the internship and those were particularly useful. We also had a trading simulation which I would highly recommend others to attend.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think that an internship really gives you a good insight on what the banking industry is like. They supposedly offer 75% of interns a place on the graduate scheme so if you work hard and show that you want a place on the scheme, your chances of getting a job are pretty high.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns were great. Unfortunetly not many of them were based on my floor but I often met with interns from other offices and other floors for lunch or for pub quizzes.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive but I knew that prior to taking up my placement.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London is a great place to work and the nightlife is amazing of course!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The only thing I got involved with outside of work was the charity challenge where, as a team, we had to raise money for the charity of the year. In our case, we hosted a Pub Quiz. Otherwise, there are very few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
