    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved the people I worked with and the work environment was brilliant. It was relaxed but hard working. The people are friendy but professional. I enjoyed love the work and it was fairly interesting and became more so as the time went on and I better understoof the tasks I was doing.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was asked to complete a lot of different jobs for different people during my 9 weeks. I always felt like they appreciated what I was doing, and I received very helpful feedback along the way.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Most of the support I received was from the people who were delegating me work. I also received help from my buddy throughout the process.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I didn't have any free time during the internship - which was great. There was no time at all for twiddling thumbs. I always had new work to do, or old work to update etc. Even when there was a lull in the work, I had the 9 week-long CSR project to work on, or I could research about the company on the intranet site.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was allowed to get on with the tasks myself, but it was all explained to me beforehand and so I was following instructions based on decisions made by more senior members of staff. Although, if we had ideas of improved ways of carrying out tasks, we were very welcome to share those views and implement them if agreed upon.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills won't help me with my degree, but will massively help with a future career in Actuarial science. I've still only learned the basics, but it is a solid grounding to help with future progress.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In the office it was fairly quiet but very friendly, with mild banter. The dress policy in my department was shirt and trousers - so no suit required. This gave a casual feel to the office environment. There was also dress-down Fridays every week, free fruit deliveries every monday, and free cooked breakfasts once a month. This all worked together to make the office environment a great place to work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well indeed. I arrive on the first day in the office and my laptop was already set up, all my files and instructions were waiting for me. I already had work lined up for me. It was as seamless as it could have been.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Every member of staff in the firm was extremely willing to spend time talking to me about their jobs, or explaining to me about a concept I wanted to hear more about, as well as helping me on tasks where I was struggling. At no point was I made to feel as though I was wasting their time - they were all keen to take up their own time helping me.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I am offered a job, I wouldn't hesitate to take it. The working environment and the people in the firm are so great and I've got on with them so well. It's very important to get on with the people you work with as you see them everyday, and I definitely feel like I do with the people at Aon.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely. One of the strongest points. We went out for drinks and meals with the staff many times during the 9 weeks. There were also various pub quizzes/crawls during my time. Some staff members don't come out but the majority make an effort to do so and its great to have a social/work life balance like I've had at Aon.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working in London means going out is pretty expensive. However, the drinks were almost always bought for us by more senior members of staff! So in the end it was pretty cheap for us!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Really good. There are loads of bars and pubs which local people go to after work for a few drinks and a game of pool. Also there are many restaurants, and of course its never far away from somewhere more lively via the underground.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Personally I didn't hear of any for myself, but some of the other interns have been involved with Football teams, cricket teams etc.
