The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year it was a sturggle at the beggining to settle into the the retail working enviroment straight from university but as I progressed I really enjoyed my experience.
Each store I was placed in the team were all very welcoming and supportive.
My line manager was very supportive and helped me to develop the competencies which required focus. We would regulary meet and stay in contact whilst I was at another store to ensure I was support if needed.
Retail is a very busy and changing enviroment therefore there was always something to do.
I was given lots of responsibility. I organised a nationwide tour at head office for the directors. In smaller stores I was the only commercial manager and I was also given the opportunity to cover a store as store manager for a period of time.
The skills I have developed are invauable and can only be learnt on the job. These skills will assit me in my final year as well and my future career.
The Company
The general atmosphere at each store was of excitment and posivtivity. The teams loved retail and enjoyed the changes.
When I arrived I was given a time line pack - due to the changes in retail enviroment there were a few changes. Despite this I did cover all the business units required.
There was alot of training days offered to me, some complusory and some optional.
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
I have been offered a job at Marks and Spencer once I have completed my degree.
The Culture
There was a good balance of socialsing with the other placement and graduates after training days and within the region.
I moved away from home and university for my placement year and due to the long hours my socialising was limited. However when I did go out with the other placement and graduates it was expensive due to living in the London area.
I did not have a 'night out' where I was living. However there are some nice bars which I visited after work.
Apart from activties organised by ourselves there were very little activities to get involved with outside of work.
