  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year but naturally it didnt come without its struggles when transitioning from university life to full time employment.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Retail is incredibly fast paced so there was certainly no time for me to get bored.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Resposibility levels gradually increased as i moved through my placement however i would say that if you ask for the responsibility you will get it much quicker than waiting for it to be handed out.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a huge amount during my placement with M&S. They invest a lot of time and money in your personal development and have a wonderful Learning and Development team who ensure you are getting the training and the skills that you need.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The graduate and placement schemes are constantly being improved with alot of time being invested to ensure they are organised well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A huge amount was invested in my development. M&S have all the resources available to shape your training specific for your needs (such as additional workshops etc) so as long as you are willing and keen to learn the opportunities for development are endless.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. I have completed a the placement programme and hope to return to the graduate one when i have completed my degree.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • as a region we were often on training days and working on projects all together which was great, so although we were in different geographical locations on a day to day basis we did regularly arrange to socialise out side of work.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The north east is a cheap area to live in compared to the rest of england.

  • I live in Newcastle!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a number of opportunities sports and charity wise such as the Bike24 challenge.
