    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • An incredible experience, with varied tasks and a lot of opportunities for networking and personal development

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My input and ideas were encouraged - one of them is being looked into to put into place.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Given a lot of support - had a supervisor in my team who was always happy to explain things I did not understand or direct me to the person best able to help me.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My supervisor made sure that I had enough tasks to keep me busy but wasn't too overloaded, and helped me order my tasks by priority.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Quite a lot! Was given real work and projects from the outset that was going to be used by members of my team or distributed around the company, and although that idea seemed really daunting at first I was eased into it and given a lot of help - by the end I was able to do this with minimal input and my team were happy to grant me this responsibility.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel like I've developed the teamwork, communication, use of iniative, time-management skills I had gained before and adapted them into office life, as well as having so many experiences and examples that would be great to use in the workplace or even talk about in future interviews.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Professional but very friendly - there are times when it's quite quiet and everyone is working hard but there is often office chat and the atmosphere is really nice

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR Managers were very accessible and available if I needed a question answering, and had a couple of catch ups with members of the HR team to discuss how the placement was going and how happy I was.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Had feedback sessions at 4 week and 8 week points to discuss my progress, what I had done well and how I could improve - I agreed a target with my line manager for the following meeting, which IMO provided a reference point for a lot of my work and gave me something to work towards

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Seem keen to hire their internship students - we were really encouraged to apply for graduate schemes and even taken on a careers day where the graduate schemes were outlined to us. Also met some former graduates who had really good positions within the company already, which showed that if you do well your career prospects are pretty good!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had great group of interns, and those of us in the Guildford head office met everyday for lunch. A lot of us also socialised outside of the office at least once a week, and feel like I've made some great friends that I'll keep in contact with afterwards!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not too bad - I commuted so am unsure of living costs but socialising was quite normal, slightly cheaper than London

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are quite a few options for bars/clubs in the area, and always managed to have a good night! The local spoons was a particular stand out

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • My team had a few dinners outside of work, and there was a Retail division BBQ as well as the annual GHO Summer Party, which was a lot of fun!

    3/5
