The Role
The internship was quite interesting and gave me a good and broad insight into telecommunications and low-current networks. I quite enjoyed going to work every day.
The colleagues were fun and with a good sense of humour. They helped me solve any problems I was having without making me wait and tried to make me feel as comfortable as I can be. They would also review my work at times to ensure I am doing what is expected of me.
I had a manager who set me the tasks that I had to do. The tasks were laid out in front of me in great detail. The manager would also explain any new concepts to me if necessary and make sure I have always tasks to do.
My days consisted of working in the office combined with various meetings with my team and customers. There was always work to do but it didn't feel like there was too much to do. The balance as quite good.
I was not given too much responsibility. My tasks were mostly closely supervised so that I did not make any critical mistakes. Nevertheless, I still had to opportunity to meet customers and work on important documents.
I learned a lot of important skills (working with AutoCAD, designing low-intensity current systems, project skills, etc.), which are quite useful. Nevertheless, my degree studies are more low-level and technical.
The Company
The atmosphere was very friendly. All of the colleagues smiled quite a lot and liked to cooperate. There were some tense moments due to tight deadlines but my colleagues were very good at dealing with that.
The internship was organised very well. My manager was always giving me tasks in a way that I can get as much out of the internship as I can and that I have a great variety of different experiences. Everything was prepared for me and I knew what to do at all times and situations.
As I already said before, I encountered a great variety of different tasks. That developed my skills. I also received training from colleagues on how to use different tools and software.
Company Parties/Events
I will probably not be working in this company in the future as, although the work done is quite technical and to do with modern technology, it is still far from what I study at university. I would prefer a job that involves more low-level stuff and electronics.
The Culture
There were not many interns in the company at that time, therefore, it is hard to tell. The colleagues invited me to many company/office events and were very social.
The cost was quite cheap as it was very close to my home town and I could just drive to work from home every day and did not have to rent an apartment. There were a lot of cheap places to eat nearby.
There was not a lot of night life in the exact location of the office but by taking the bus for around 5 minutes you could get to the heart of the city where there were a lot of places to go out and have fun.
The company organised some teams from the office to participate in some popular sports events. There were also internal company sports events and barbecues that were highly attended by my colleagues and their families.
