    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work I was involved in was interesting and varied. The company organised various activities for us to get involved in to learn more about the business and to network with interns, graduates and fee earners. We also had multiple opportunities to get out of the office including going on property inspections, and being taken on walking tours of the city to learn more about the London market.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • We were given responsibility and made to feel valued during the internship. Fee earners and graduates invested significant time in us to enable us to carry out productive work, for which responsibility was given to us for writing reports, and making and receiving phone calls for the team, as two examples.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • While we were assigned a 'buddy' for the duration of our internship, who gave us much support throughout and were our first port of call, other members of the team were more than willing to offer us guidance and train us up such that we could understand the work the team carried out and help out wherever possible.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally I was kept busy all the time; having the initiative to ask for extra work to do once I had finished set tasks and making sure I was always being useful to the team. However the general experience of other interns was quite varied; depending on how much work the team felt able to give them and also how persistent the individual was in asking for work!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Responsibility was given to us to write sections of the valuation reports, but although we were contributing to real work which would be sent out to clients, the sections we were given to write were those which were relatively simple and / or which didn't have huge implications if we got them wrong.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Doing the internship gives you invaluable knowledge for your degree studies, particularly if you haven't already studied a property degree (like myself). Further to this, working for such a well recognised, global company gives you the experience of working in a professional environment, the expectations it places on its employees and the workloads it requires; useful for formulating a better idea of whether working for a company like this is the direction you want to take.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good atmosphere, very energetic and lots of banter! Everyone was incredibly friendly and always willing to help. However, because of the high volume of work and short timescales it could also be quite intense at times!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised. Lots of activities, including departmental presentations, walking tours of the city and drinks events were packed into the month long internship. We were given all the important information we would need for the internship, and quickly became accustomed to use of the company systems, and general working practices.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was an onus on the individual to achieve personal development. Activities were not provided in the form of training sessions, and the level of personal training you received on the job most probably depended on the team assigned to you, and how proactive you were to improve your skills and knowledge of the job or tasks required. However the company did invest significantly in us in terms of providing departmental talks, walking tours of The City, and in providing drinks for social events!

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I can definitely see myself working for Savills in the future. The atmosphere at the company was fantastic, albeit very competitive, and the company evidently invested a lot in its employees. As one of the top real estate companies, career training and progression would be among the very best.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Our group of internship students were all very sociable and active when it came to social events. Further, there was also effort amongst other colleagues to get us involved in networking events with fee earners.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in the area I worked in is out of the question considered we were located in central London, but socialising in this area was also relatively expensive as well! Typical of central London though!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I cannot say that I had much time for nightlife when so focused on performing well during the internship, and after working long hours at the office which leaves you with little energy to spare for going out! But being close to Oxford Circus meant that all of central London was easily accessible for going out in the evenings.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were lots of social events organised amongst the interns, as well as by the company and if we wanted to I am sure we would have been welcome to join in with any sporting events on the calendar as well.
