    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My job role was so much more than what I expected from a placement. It was a role which heavily impacted the business, giving me plenty of responsibility.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It's such a strangely brilliant culture! Everyone is extremely approachable and after 13 months here I am yet to find someone unwilling to offer their help or advice.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At any point if I required support or guidance my manager would always make time. The support system here is honestly superb.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • After completely understanding and getting to grips with my day job it created extra capacity for me to get involved with a wide array of projects, each developing very different skills! I found I had the capacity to do this but never to the extent that I didn't have enough work to keep me busy! Perfect balance.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility. In fact, how I managed my day job was directly linked to a figure on our scorecard and how we are measured globally.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have no doubt that the skills I've built this year have set me up for a strong career. My learning curve throughout my placement has been much steeper than university, school or any other education in my past.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Enthusiastic, engaged and inspiring people work here. I was energised each day by the passion people invest in their work, which is infectious!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well structured, good support system and a good review cycle in place.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have been on various training courses throughout my year, attended customer sites to build my customer facing experience and much more. I have always felt like the same investment is made in me as is made in a full time employee.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you are passionate about technology, I couldn't suggest a better place to start your career!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Due to the large number of interns (110-ish) there were always nights out and socials at the weekends! Also you will find the teams here are close, and often go for drinks together. Finally I was part of the rugby team this year which provided a few rugby socials throughout the year!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading isn't cheap but comparatively it isn't overly expensive either. With the amount you earn as an intern here it is enough for a very comfortable and sociable lifestyle!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading is a uni town, so has its fair share of bars and clubs! If your out a LOT then you may find options limited, but with London only a 30 minute train away we really can't complain!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are LOTS of sports clubs within Microsoft which you can get involved with, but also we are actively encouraged to get involved with charities outside of work. This is even facilitated by giving us additional days off work to go and carry our charity work!
