    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • An excellent experience overall, it was a different type of environment to ones I have worked in before and made me consider different options for work after I graduate.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Some colleagues were very supportive and encouraging, others less so. I was working in quite an academic environment which was challenging to integrate into. After some time I felt I earned the respect of most of my colleagues.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was excellent, they provided me with support when needed but for the most part let me get on with the job myself.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Sometimes a little too busy but not bad. It took some time to work out my priorities, what needed doing first and what could be left until later.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was allowed to largely manage my own work and developed some new ideas on my own. It was rewarding to see my independent work come to fruition by the end of my placement.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It has made me consider working in a more academic environment after I graduate which is not something I had considered before my placement. In particular I developed my scientific writing skills which will be invaluable both at university and post graduation.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A little too busy and noisy at times but nice colleagues.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The company have been placing students for many years and most managers have experience working with interns in the past. The onboarding process was easy and smooth and the company is well set up overall for placements.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that people were willing to spend time with me and teach me things, even as an intern. Most people were friendly and if I went to seek them out with questions, they were to explain concepts I did not understand or listen to my ideas.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would certainly like to work with the company again, there are a number of different roles that I am considering applying for after graduation. They keep a record of your internship on file so that i t can be considered if you apply for a role in the future.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were a varying number of interns on site (8-25) throughout the year and there was always something going on. We organised events among ourselves throughout the year.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was quite an expensive area to live in but that is what you get for living within commuting distance of London. The remuneration package offered by the company made consideration of the cost of living in the area.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Average, nice bars and pubs. Not a lot by the way of clubs. Close enough to London to visit friends/go for nights out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company runs a social club which organises at least half a dozen events per year for all employees. I took advantage of several of them.

    4/5
