The Role
I really felt part of the team and wasn't treated as an intern. The work was varied but detailed, allowing me to get a real sense of working in the industry.
My team were absolutely lovely, letting me know exactly how I was doing throughout the year without ever being overly formal.
I was given support whenever needed and was able to ask for more help at any point.
Due to the nature of the industry, certain times were busier than others, but the work was never too much to handle and was ultimately extremely rewarding.
From day one tasks were given to me with little supervision (apart from the necessary to make sure I wasn't struggling) and responsibility only increased as the internship progressed.
While perhaps not being too relevant to my university degree, the placement has definitely provided me with skills (on the job and in training sessions) that will prove invaluable when I look for jobs as a graduate.
The Company
My team have been brilliant, finding the perfect balance between ensuring work comes first while being able to engage with each other on a personal level.
The training schemes offered to interns were superb, acting as a framework for the placement, structuring both the way you work and giving you the ability to evaluate both yourself and your role within the company.
The intern training scheme was brilliant, with away days as a team alongside more conventional sessions with the rest of the interns. IT courses are available for those who want them and all you have to do is ask and help will be given.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
While appealing, I do not think the company is in the position to offer than many ex-interns employment when they finish their degree, though this is mainly due to the relatively small number of employees.
The Culture
Intern drinks were frequent if you wanted to attend but there was never a culture of interns vs. permanent staff.
Central London is always going to be expensive but company events were usually paid for by the company.
If you chose where to live wisely, the nightlife is what you make it.
Loads of voluntary schemes are available from charity based events to inter-departmental work based schemes.
