The Role
Initially, the placement seemed to offer what was promised at the recruitment day. Friendly staff, a decent amount of work and working on a busy site, however a few months in, the work dried up, and some senior managers at the site seemed to go out of their way to make my working life difficult, which is a shame.
The guys I worked with on the 'shop floor' were great. They were true 'rough and ready' guys, but we had a good laugh, which made the working day go quite quickly. As mentioned in my previous comment, certain managers didn't see the value that a Placement Student could give to the company and they made me feel like I was more of a hindrance.
Initially very good support was given. Toward the second half of the placement this lacked, but I found help from some of the other guys at the site instead.
The most useful skills I developed were those needed for Risk Assessments and COSHH Assessments.
The Company
I was the only one in there!
A bit haphazard, but speaking to other Placement Students, they had a well structured placements, so I think my case was isolated.
The Culture
In general, there is only one Placement Student per site at Gist.
Quite expensive in Spalding and Hull
