  • Everyone was friendly and willing to help, and the work was challenging but rewarding.

  • I had meaningful input at all stages of the placement

  • While for the most part I was fairly self-directed, when I needed support my manager was very happy to help out.

  • There was a long-term project which I could plan my time for, meaning I was working at my own pace.

  • I had responsibility for my own code sections, working with a more experienced engineer overseeing the overall system.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The methods for professional development I learned (design patterns, unit testing etc) were invaluable for my final year project.

  • It was fairly quiet and sedate, but conversations were continually flowing during the day

  • There were no problems that I could see - expectations were always set up ahead of time for each task and stage.

  • There was a 1 week training course at the start, plus a buddy assigned to each of us.

  • Some colleagues were more engaged in social events than others

  • Average prices - but far less than London!

  • Birmingham has a huge number of pubs/bars/clubs

  • There were plenty of events, though it was difficult to know how to get involved sometimes
