The Role
Overall it was a really good experience. The work was really interesting and I was always learning new things. I would definitely come back and work for them again.
Everyone was really approachable and friendly, they made me feel very welcome. I was treated like all other members of the department, people were always willing to help out and answer any questions I had.
I had regular meetings with my manager, where I could voice any issues I may have had. For each project I worked on the was someone I could go to for advice and to ask questions. I found it was a good level of support.
It varied, sometimes I was very busy and sometimes it was a bit slower. However I could request more work if I wanted to be busier. My manager and I had regular conversations about my workload and how much work I felt I could take on.
The more experienced I became the more responsibility I was given. I was given regular tasks that I could take ownership of. By the end of the placement I completed projects independently.
I developed numerous skills that will be extremely helpful in the future. I don't think I realised at the beginning how valuable this year would be. I developed lots of technical skills; Excel, Access, VBA and also other skills; report writing, presentation, time management.
The Company
It was a really great atmosphere in the office, everyone was lovely and although it was professional there was always time to share a joke.
It has been running for many years so it was really well set up and organised.
Our development was kept in mind at all times. We were given opportunities to visit operational sites to put work into context, e.g. Heathrow Tower and Air Traffic Control Centre visits.

Working from home
There is no graduate scheme however there are many full time opportunities within the department. I would definitely consider going back after I finish my degree!
The Culture
There are 15+ placement students working within NATS so plenty of opportunities to make friends and socialise.
It is a fairly cheap area.
Depends where you live but Southampton and Portsmouth are student areas so there is a lot going on.
There were several events organised throughout the year- christmas meal, pub crawl, bowling etc.
