    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement was pretty fun, like all jobs there were some days that were mundance but overall I'd say I had a great time. I can't think of one instance where I woke up in the morning and thought 'I don't want to go to work today because it is horrible' the job was top notch.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • If I had reviewed the placement over the first 3 months I'd have scored much lower than this, the nature of my role meant learning a lot of different processes which all take time. Once you've realised that you need to learn to walk before you can run there is not really an issue, a few months in and I felt capable, useful and valued. Towards the end of my placement I was told my contract had been extended- I guess this let me know that my work was valued!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • When I got instruction the standard was pretty good, my boss is a grade A perfectionist so I really tried hard to do things as well as he did... Sometimes people would be busy so you'd be stumped for an hour or two. I felt the initial induction needed more work as the first two weeks were very disjointed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The more capable I became the more work I inherited on top of my student projects, I wanted to impress so I always volunteered to do things. At times I may have taken this a little far.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had a good deal of responsibility but I knew I could fall back on my colleagues had I found myself out of my own depth.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As long as I stay within the discipline of my degree what I learnt will be priceless, I am fortunate to have got such a well suited placement.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Pretty good, we got our work done. It could have been a little more fun at times but we are there to do a job primarily really.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My initial project was set out when I arrived, the second project took 6 months to arrive. Generally I'd say I pushed for a lot of the things I did, you can't just sit back and wait for things to be handed to you on a plate.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lots of time and practical skills that are useful for final year, they also set me my dissertation topic so it won't stop when I leave. They'd also lend you cars for the weekend if you wanted- not benficial but really fun.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Its 70% hard work, 20% who you know and 10% luck according to my boss. I think if I continue to do what I am doing at the moment there is a fair chance of returning in the future.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was if you wanted it, theres a large mix of nationalities on placement so there is someone for everyone. I tended to go back to uni most weekends so didnt benefit as much as I could

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is Oxford, everything costs a fortune. I was lucky to find rent for as little as I did!

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Average- overpriced at times.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Theres lots of students, make of them what you will!
