About You
It was a 2 day residential program and it was well organized. The activities were well spaced out and enjoyable.
The networking dinner at the end of the first day was really helpful to get to know some people in the business. Also, the hotel stay was excellent.
There wasn't much personal attention during the activities but we were thoroughly briefed about all the areas of the business.
We had a mock-interview session on some of the core competencies and that would definitely help in future interviews and applications.
The Company
Although it was the first year that the insight was being run, it was well structured and we were never made to wait. The entire process was rather seamless.
The insight program was held before the exam period for several students so they were understandably nervous (some brought homework to do in the evening in the hotel). However the staff and facilitators were extremely approachable and friendly.
I had the chance to meet some employees who were in departments I was interested in and managed to understand more about their daily job. It was a 2 day program so there wasn't much emphasis placed on personal development.
We were given opportunities to meet and talk to people from all the different business areas. Some even travelled over from London to talk to us (the insight program i attended was held in Reading).
I did not gain much understanding about the in depth company culture. Most of the briefings were on the professional areas. However there are opportunities to ask about this during the networking periods.
It enabled me to compare this experience with the insight experiences I got at other competitor firms; hence I am much clearer as to which firms I am more keen to work for.
Everything Else
The business paid for the hotel stay and dinner; train fares were also reimbursed.
The company organized a networking dinner and some networking sessions throughout the two days, so there were many opportunities to speak with both entry-level and senior people.
It was well organized and we enjoyed ourselves. The food was good and the ambiance was nice as well.
Of course there are some social activities but these differ from department to department. However it was not a key part of the program and it was not really emphasized during the activities.
Yes, especially for first year students who would like to know about the differences between the top firms in this industry.
