The Role
It is an interesting place to work and very fast paced but there is a fairly corporate atmosphere which wasn't quite me.
The work you do is valued and I was praised throughout for hard work
There are lots of possible opportunities to progress and learn about other areas of the business through training and also personal development plans reviewed every 6 months
Sometimes a little too busy, it is fast paced and a lot is asked of you, but majority of the time it was a manageable work load.
High levels of resposnsibility given to employees even at entry level. Tasks include analysing sales, communicating with stores and helping to decide a stores product range.
The skills learnt i believe will be beneficial in other companies such as vast excel knowledge, however not very valuable to the final year at university.
The Company
A lovely group of people who worked hard but you could also chat and laugh about with. Organised pay day lunches and drinks after work in london often, especially when it is someones leaving do.
Vey well organised with inductions and regular catch ups. Time also spent having catch ups with HR to ensure you are doing well and talking about the career path you would like.
Employees are actively encouraged to attend training courses that sometimes are not even aimed at your current job role. I personally attended training for buying despite being a merchandiser
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Good opportunities to come back however all depending on space available in the company no matter how much they liked you.
The Culture
There isn't a huge social scene but it could be easily organised by yourself if you wanted more contact with other placement students.
Rent between 350-450 a month, travel out of london to head office about 10 pounds daily by train. Drinks between 4-7 pounds depending on what you drink for a night out.
Very limited but on the doorstep to london so easy to pop in for happy hour.
There are opportunities however these are barely promoted or advertised and you would have to source this youself. There are opportunities to take days off work and work in the community doing gardening and helping out with other projects but you must make this happen yourself.
