    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year - yes it was demanding and taugh at times and the expectations are high but that's what makes it great. I have built a great network of people and will be applying for the graduate scheme next year.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like I was treated the same way as the permanent members of staff.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly meetings with my manager, these were led by me which meant that I could raise any issues I wanted to talk about. My manager helped me build on my weaknesses and develop not only my knowledge but also interpersonal skills.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My role was demanding at times - and it is not for everyone. But I cannot speak for everyone as every role is different.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This depends on your ability and willingness to take on responsibility - the managers are very keen to give you the opportunity to lead projects/take ownership if you show that you are interested.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Not specific to my maths degree - however the interpersonal skills I've learned are invaluable. Also skills such as project management, planning etc. will assist greatly in any future career.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was always very friendly and fun.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were some intern roles withing the business where the teams have not had interns before therefore as expected these were not as structured as the other intern roles. i personally cannot complain about the set up of my placement.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had 3 mandatory courses to attend - presentation, influencing & facilitating effective meetings skills. These are 1 to 3 day workshops which I found extremely helpful. Also lots of online training on offer.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am planning to apply for the FMP graduate programme - but there are lots of other opportunities too. During my year within GE I saw lots of people being promoted internally (they are very good at that).

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was quite a large number of interns - so plenty of socialising!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being outside London meant that it was a little cheaper. However living (especially if alone) can be a little expensive. Most interns had grouped up and shared accomodation witch is a bit cheaper.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not the best nightlife in Watford, but on the other hand London is less than 30min away!

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had weekly football & netball games and also a Hockey tournament.

    3/5
