    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had an extremely fun yet interesting year. Not only did I learn an extremely large amount, I also had fun with everyone whilst doing so, my placement year would not have been the experience it was if I did not fit in and have an enjoyable time with my colleagues.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felet extremely valued. With a team of only 3 members, I did not end up playing the 'intern' role I expected to but my ideas and contributions were valued and trusted.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support I was given was fantastic. I was told right from the start to ask as many questions as I needed to, and to ask for advice and guidance whenever, which I did often. They were on hand to support me at all times and spent a great amount of time showing me things and training me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • With a small team of 3 members and with a lot of work to do, I was very busy for the majority of the time, sometimes when there were a few projects on the go at the same time it becamse a little stressful but I soon realised I thrived off the fast pace and preferred to be busy.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I was project manager for many tasks and was given large roles when planning events. Unfortunately my role as an intern prevented me from getting involved with certain projects due to confidentiality issues but I understand this.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This experience has given me great practical knowledge to assist my existing theoretical knowledge from university. This placement has introduced me to the working environment that I wish to work in when graduating and the skills and experiences I have gained are invaluable.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmostphere was great, we have a fairly small office so it was very chatty and sociable. We often had team nights and days out which was a great way to get to know everybody outside of work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very. There were intern intro days and an intern night out already planned for everyone to get to know each other and everything was set up and in place for when I arrived.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did not attend many training days or courses but my team involved me in as many projects and programs as they could to widen my skills set and experiences.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Above 25 days holiday

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment with GE is always possible as they are such a large organisation. Unfortunately at my site, the communications team do not have the headcount for a 4th member of staff at the moment but I am aware that I can potentially stay within GE or return after university.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene, I spent most of my time outside of work socialising with fellow interns. With around 50 interns, everyone formed a great friendship and stuck together throughout the year.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cardiff is very low cost compared to London where I attend university. My salary more than covered living and socialising costs.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cardiff is well known for its nightlife, it was a great night out which things to do virtually every night.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • GE has a huge volunteering culture. Outside of work, I took part in many volunteering projects and immersed myself within the local community.
