The Role
Working for Tesco can be challenging at times however it is a great opportunity to learn more about yourself and develop your skills. There are plenty of opportunities for training and development.
Although I was part of a great team, Tesco is a very large and corporate company and to an extent I don't feel that colleagues are valued as well as they could be for the work that they do.
Tesco ensure you have regular 1-2-1 meetings with your Line Manager where you can discuss any concerns or problems you may be having.
The workload could sometimes be on the quiet side, you need to be pro active in seeking out opportunities for new projects and ideas to keep your workload flowing.
I was given quite a bit of responsibility during my placement, it was great to know Tesco trusted me to organise large projects for the team.
The training offered by Tesco is great - although again you do have to be quite pro active in seeking training opportunities out and booking on to courses. The skills I have learnt especially my presentation skills will really help me to progress in my final year of university and once I have graduated.
The Company
There is a good atmosphere in the office, a good balance of work and interaction between colleagues.
The work placement was set up well however job role training and things such as holiday entitlement for placement students was not communicated very well and led to some confusion.
There were plenty of opportunitites for training and development which Tesco invested in for individuals including Excel courses, Personal Leadership courses and Presentation courses.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
As Tesco is such a large company there are plenty of opportunities in different departments.
The Culture
The social scene with placement students was ok but we had to organise activities ourselves, I think it would be great if Tesco were to organise something for the placements prior to when they first join the company to give everyone a chance to meet each other and get to know each other.
I commuted to work everyday so I did not rent nearby, the social scene is pretty quiet in the surrounding areas so we would have to go slightly further afield.
Very quiet. Again you would have to go further afield for some bars and clubs which involved spending money on taxis.
There weren't really any activities advertised outside of work to take part in and if there were they weren't made very well known.
