    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enterprise is an organisation that is growly very rapidly, thus they are always recruiting and have a very well established Management Training program which can be started by graduates or placement students. It is hard work and you'll always be busy but gives you invaluable skills and the prospect of returning and getting promoted quickly is almost guarenteed if you are competent and enjoy the work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Enterprise branches typically have between 5-8 staff so you'll always be an integral part of the team with so much work to complete daily.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a change of managers half way through my placement, which was good as it has shown me different leadership styles, and the support from my branch colleagues as well as my area manager and the training team will help me complete my training folder this year making my placement a success.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Let's be clear - the basic working week is 50 hours, so the job requires hard work and commitment. The aim at Enterprise is basically to rent 90% of the cars on your fleet everyday, some days this will be easy and you'll have time to get lots of other activities such as marketing and networking done, whereas others will be absorbed by driving for much of the day when we are very busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of responsibility increases as you progress through the training folder. After a few months you get to start 'office running', essentially meaning that you are responsible for coordinating the team and the fleet for the day to make sure all customers receive the right car at the right time- which can be a lot more challenging (but ultimately rewarding) than it sounds.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Enterprise really does feel like you are in control of the business, with a strong focus on the four key areas: profitability, growth, employee development and customer service. These skills are invaluable for any business so they are definitelt transferrable.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Working with the same 7 people for 50+ hours per week means of course that there will be fun times, and times when there are disagreements, but on the whole I have enjoyed going to work and being a valued member of my team.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Throughout the year there are various training classes at the regional head office, which are well organised, valuable, and a nice break from the office. The four part training folder with an interview at the end is a well structured programme which gives you a clear idea of how well you are progressing and what needs to be done to progress in the short and medium term.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As I said, you are an invaluable team member as soon as you start with Enterprise. Half of Enterprise's new recruits leave within their first year - it's a job that either fits you or it doesn't. At no point did I feel I had been forgotten about and always knew who to speak to if I needed assistance or advice.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have agreed to stay on full time through the summer with Enterprise and then go down to part time when I go back to university, my future prospects within the company look good and there will be a job for me if I want it.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone in the branch got on and we would all go on nights out at least once a month - some of them the company even paid for!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during my placement year so my living costs were very low - Hull is a cheap place to live regardless!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Hull's nightlife is good and varied and there is a decent student population.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Other than a general social scene, we didn't organise specific company activities.
